Product Description

The NJ5F will leave you breathless with the splintering snap and grind of its hardwired midrange that can only be tamed by the norepinephrine of its euphoric high end. This is a vintage style single coil pickup wound with Heavy Formvar wire, a choice of alnico III or V magnets, and wound with a programmable CNC winder that simulates a vintage hand wound pattern. The combination of the HF wire in correspondence with the simulated hand wind produces the pickup's lowered resonant peak, which is the source of the hypnotizing ambrosia that is the NJ5F's divine high end. Between its high and low end frequencies, this pickup produces a full-bodied sound that replicates the drive synonymous with 60s vintage tone.

Technical Details:

  • Single coil 5 string jazz-type bass pickup.
  • Fender spacing
  • Available in Alnico III or V magnets:
    • Alnico III: will provide a blanket of warmth for your pickup, giving it a slightly softer character.
    • Alnico V: all around brighter, punchier, and meaner (Standard).
  • Available with an alternative 70s wind, featuring enamel wire and a lower wind count than the traditional 60s wind. In choosing this particular specification, the player can expect a more aggressive, enhanced top end with a tight bottom.
  • Drop-in J replacement pickup.
  • Available in black plastic covers.
  • Laser cut, fiber bobbins.
  • Wax-potted to contain any unruly frequency that may attempt to desecrate your desired tone.

History: Though the NJ5F does indeed resonate with the vintage 60s-style tone described, the roots of its initial design and ever extrapolating refinement lies in our prospects of providing the player with a traditional vintage-style versatility that is tailored to taste; the choice in magnet type and wind geometry making every difference when it comes to the birthplace of an artist's desired tone.

Magnet Types:

Alnico III magnets differ from Alnico V in that they are warmer with a softer character. Think of them like a 60’s J style sound taken even further down the warm and fat path. Alnico V by contrast is brighter, cleaner and punchier, and will have a more wiry, stringy character. As another example, we’d recommend A3 for fretless or a fat 60’s Jaco type thing and A5 is great for a modern slap type thing or an R and B sound.

Alnico V comes standard.
