Acoustic Guitars: Shapes and Sizes

Finding the right acoustic guitar will depend on a number of things – wood combination, shape, sound, etc., One thing that might help in your search for your next acoustic guitar is by remembering that each shape has its specific tonal characteristics. In this issue, we will cover some popular shapes to give you an idea of how they would sound.

TRAVEL SIZE

Compact and light enough to bring everywhere, travel-size guitars focus more on the mids and treble. Made for those who would love to play anytime and anywhere without the hassle of a bulky guitar.

PARLOR

Parlor guitars bring out that vintage vibe with its iconic shape and 12-fret neck joint. Widely favored for its transparent light bass, and crisp sparkling highs. They are generally good for fingerpicking.

OOO / OM

The Auditorium or “OOO” is a mid-size guitar with great balance, volume, and projection. Just a pure dose of power and dynamic range while having improved articulation and note separation with less emphasis on the bass registers – making it the go-to guitar for fingerpickers.

DREADNOUGHT

Probably the most iconic and the most recorded amongst all acoustic guitar shapes, the dreadnought is known for its deep and lush sound due to its wider depth and waist. With its rich and deep sound, it is a favorite among pick users, especially for heavy strummers.

MEDIUM JUMBO

The Medium Jumbo or the Grand Auditorium has a narrower waist but with a wider lower bout, resulting in its deep piano-like basses and crystalline highs. Traditionally great for a meatier chord work but often praised for being more balanced across the spectrum compared to the dreadnoughts.

9th Year Anniversary

On May 12, 2012, we sold our first guitar to a customer, ZALD4444 – an Epiphone Les Paul Honeyburst. Born out of a hobby and our desire to make good instruments more accessible here, it is never in our wildest dreams to be where we are now. Starting from 8 guitars, we can proudly say that Guitar Pusher now carries the widest selection of guitars and products across many brands.

This will not be possible without your support. Maraming Salamat po!
